The Phenix Bank was organized around 1812 and remained in business until eventually receiving its charter in 1865, thus becoming the Phenix National Bank of the City of New York, charter #1374. Very few banks throughout the entire country issued such odd-denominations as this one. New York City had some banks that seemed to have quite an affinity for the $11-$14 denominations although the reason for this is unknown. Herb and Martha not only had the four-piece set of Haxby Plate notes from the Western Reserve, they also had an $11-$12-$13-$14 sheet from the Roger H. Durand denomination collection. This is the first $12 note we have sold and when we sold a couple of the other odd-denominations from this bank they each realized several thousand dollars.
