LaPorte, Indiana. LaPorte & Plymouth Plank Road Company. 1850s. $5. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ. Proof. (Wolka 386-5). Imprint of Danforth, Wright & Co., New-York & Philad. India paper mounted on original archive book card. Full pink lathe tint across note with outlined FIVE. Cattle scene at top. Left end, woman at well. At right, two men. This company was to construct a road that connected La Porte and Plymouth. A relatively short stint in business with its existence roughly from 1853 to 1857. This note was originally part of an uncut sheet of $1-$1-$2-$5 in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. We sold this same individual proof for over $1,500 in our 2012 ANA sale. Exceedingly rare as a proof and, at present, believed to be unique. A bold proof.
