St. Louis, Missouri. (Second) Bank of St. Louis. ND (18xx). $20. PMG Gem Uncirculated 66EPQ. Proof. (MO-50 Unlisted, similar to G8a). A stunning full color proof printed on India paper and mounted on its original card by Danforth, Wright & Co. This Gem originated in the 1990 ABNCo. auction where it was one of four examples on the sole sheet of its type. It leaves the Newman Collection $20 red proof example auctioned in October 2015 in its wake condition-wise. That was a slightly different vignette structure at the left. This favors the $10 in series color proof we sold in The 52 Collection Part I for $20,700 and matches with well. Washington is supported at the top center by Navigation and Agriculture. Lower left is a male portrait (different from G8a, as the Newman example) and lower right an attractive female. Since the Newman Missouri collection was auctioned, few Missouri rarities have surfaced for the enthusiastic bidders of this state. However, we recently auctioned a $1 proof with protector last summer at the ANA for $4,320. This is much superior as a type and stellar condition. A realization above high estimate would not surprise us.
