Jamestown, Indiana. State Stock Bank. 1854. $5. PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. Proof. (IN-260 G8) Danforth, Wright & Company. India paper only. Impressive styling with row of three portrait vignettes at top center with from left to right, Franklin, Washington and Jackson. Geometric left and right panels. The State Stock Bank opened as a Free Bank in 1853 but, following the Panic of 1854, the bank failed as so many others did. This note was originally part of a $5-$5-$5-$10 sheet that was in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. No issued notes are known which leaves just proofs, the number of which can be counted on one hand with fingers left over. Far superior to the Peter Mayer example that we offered in 2015.
