CC-24. Continental Currency. February 17, 1776. $2. PCGS Currency Choice New 63 PPQ.No. 123924. Signed by Andrew Tybout and Josiah Hewes. This duo also signed Pennsylvania notes from the April 25, 1776 issue. The vignette is grain being threshed by a flail. The Latin motto is TRIBULATIO DITAT, which Newman translates, Affliction improves it. The signatures and serial number are so well accomplished they look as if they were applied last week. The margins and centering are well above average, leaving this as the second-nicest example we have sold. The only one better was a PCGS Gem New 66PPQ that we sold for over $3,000 in 2012. This same note first topped the $2,000 mark in a 2016 sale. A flashy and gorgeous Continental.
