CC-19. Continental Currency. February 17, 1776. $1/6. PCGS Currency Choice About New 55 PPQ.No. 109105. Plate B. Imprint of Hall and Sellers. Face and back motifs created by Franklin. Face emblem, at right, sundial with blazing sun shining, FUGIO in left circular border, MIND YOUR BUSINESS in the exergue. Border cuts on all sides with obligation in left center. Back with interlocked thirteen link chain with names of the first colonies, this encircling rayed central motto WE ARE ONE within circular border with AMERICAN CONGRESS. These powerful Franklin inspired motifs created from his early Poor Richards Almanacs. Fractional denomination notes, $1/6 to $2/3, are the only ones seen in the entire Continental Congress series. They are fractional Continental Dollar notes utilizing the Franklins Fugio design. High grade examples such as the ones here are elusive and the $1/6 is the rarest in high grades since the vast majority were hard used as the smallest piece of paper money change available in commercial channels. The first denomination from a choice set of Fugio notes. Very bold printing on both sides with inspiring clarity of the vignettes. Deeply embossed over fresh and original paper surfaces. A handpicked beauty and as the lowest denomination Continental type, a must have for many American paper money collectors.
