(C. 1881) Pynchon House medal by J.A. Bolen. Copper. 25mm. Musante JAB-39. MS-66BN PL (NGC).,An exceptionally attractive medal with intense blended sea foam green, pale blue and gold iridescence blended across the surfaces. Boldly prooflike fields nicely showcase Bolens depiction of the old house, which he cut into steel fifty years after it had been razed. The device is crisp in execution and frosty. The reverse legends are bold and even. A distinctive architectural type. It is reported that 95 were struck in copper. From the Q. David Bowers Collection, though it did not appear in our January 2011 sale. From the Tim Gabriele Collection. Earlier ex Q. David Bowers.
