(after 1864) Muling of J.A. Bolen’s Washington die and Joseph Merriam’s R. Chamberlain card. Tin. 28mm. Musante JAB W-4, GW-691. Baker-526. MS-62 (NGC).,Bright prooflike surfaces have essentially retained their full brilliance save for where a bit of light handling has marred the open fields. A visually distinctive composition and very rare. Musante estimates just five examples in tin and three in copper. Indeed, they rarely appear for sale and Musante was unable to locate one to image for his references, either for that on Bolen medals or his recent work on Washington medals, using composite images instead. From the Tim Gabriele Collection.
