1867 J.A. Bolen store card. No Obverse Signature. Copper. 25mm. Musante JAB-24. MS-63RB (NGC).,Beautiful polychromatic toning with intense green, rose, gold, violet and blue mottled over much of the surface. Even light silver gray is noted in some of the protected recesses raising the question as to whether this piece might in fact be silvered, as we know Bolen pieces occasionally were. Strong reflectivity in the fields. Sharp and satiny on the obverse motif. It is reported that just 14 were struck by Bolen in copper and according to contemporary accounts, including that of Bolen, the obverse die was destroyed by him so no restrikes are possible. Very rare. From the Tim Gabriele Collection. Earlier ex Henry South.
