(C. 1865) Lincoln / With Malice Toward None medal by J.A. Bolen. Copper. 25mm. Musante JAB-20. MS-64BN (NGC).,Gently mottled mahogany brown. No impairments but a bit of light surface oil gives the fields a slightly dull appearance in sharp contrast to the prooflike texture seen on the previous example. Struck from the dies in a later state, with two prominent reverse cracks extending from the rim into the legend near 6:00. A third, finer radial one is seen at 2:00. This piece is overstruck on an unidentified host, but a prominent letter "A" from the undertype is unmistakable at the H in WITH. Other ghostly letters can be made out close to the rim, nearby. An interesting variant for the specialist. From the Tim Gabriele Collection.
