Although much can be said about the likes of William Windom and his long political career from the 1850s until his untimely death in 1891 and the distinctive nature of this design. One would be remiss to mention Windoms connection to Hollywood by way of his great-grandson William Windom. Born in 1923 far and away from the likes of Minnesota. The younger Windom was a consistent sight on television and film during the 1960s and 1970s. Windom starred in programs such as <em>The Twilight Zone</em> and <em>Star Trek</em> where he guest starred as Commodore Matt Decker who commanded the ill-fated USS <em>Constellation</em> (NCC-1017) in the 1967 episode "The Doomsday Machine." He would also star in the 1962 film adaptation of Harper Lees <em>To Kill a Mockingbird</em> as District Attorney Horace Gilmer opposite Gregory Pecks portrayal of Atticus Finch. The balance of his career throughout the remainder of his life saw him take on a variety of roles in various films and television programs before retiring in the early 2000s. Windom would die at the age of 88 in 2012 from natural causes 121 years after his great-grandfather fell dead at Delmonicos Steakhouse in New York. The younger Windom is certainly better known than his great grandfather, but nonetheless accounts for an interesting connection between two seemingly unrelated fields.From the Hararn Family Collection.
