The Series of 1899 was fairly long-lived and one that lasted through the 1920s. Issued in only three denominations; the $2 is certainly distinctive owing to the comparatively small portrait of George Washington placed between a pair of allegorical figures representative of industry and agriculture and the clasp-like arrangement that reads "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" along the top margin. Most surviving examples regardless of signature combination are encountered below the grade Very Fine or in the company of numerous impairments as a result of circulation. This piece is certainly an exception to most of its peers on account of the grade assigned by PMG. Graded Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ one need not a numismatic primer to understand as to how this note graded the way it did. Rich colors laden with eye appeal and behemoth margins attest to this distinction where words would otherwise be cumbersome to express the same sentiment. No doubt a premium bid awaits this item when it comes time to cross the auction block.
