T-17. Confederate Currency. 1861 $20. PCGS Currency Choice New 63 PPQ.No. 25557, Plate A. This variety has "for" printed before "Register" and "Treasr." Also seen with long green overprint. Top Pop at PCGS. Only two graded better at PMG. A vibrantly colored and beautifully printed Hoyer & Ludwig 1861 Twenty. Liberty with pole and cap is seen at left. Three allegorical females representing Agriculture, Commerce and Navigation are seen at center. Brilliant green color is retained in the underprint, with paper that is bright and fully original. T-17s are typically found poorly cut however this note displays solid margins throughout. One of the PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ notes that we sold was part of the Cleo Collection and it brought a staggering $11,750 in our 2017 ANA sale. Even in our March Baltimore sale we sold a vastly inferior PMG Very Fine 20 for $1,110. This is a fantastic example of a lovely early type and a note destined for a long-term, elite-level collection.
