George Casilear Miscellaneous Engravings Book.George Casilear first worked for Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co. In 1862 he went to work for the National Currency Bureau, which later became the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Blank face with ornamental pattern. The spine states "Miscellaneous Engravings." The inside cover shows his personal crest with cursive name "George W. Casilear." The Latin motto "Honor et Veritas" is seen at the lower part of the crest, which translates as "Honor and Truth." This book contains 32 engravings with a couple of blank pages in the back. There are some interesting ones in here that deserve mention: Decline of Carthage, Whalers, The Opening of New London Bridge, The King at Holyrood, The Prince of Orange Landing at Torbay, A Hawking Party, The Virgin Mother, The Rock at St. Helena, The Star in the East, The Prodigal Son, Ino and Bacchus, Ulysses, and many more. A truly special engravings book for the artistically-minded currency enthusiast.
