T-38. Confederate Currency. 1861 $2. PCGS Currency Very Fine 20.No. 1080, Plate 4. Imprint of Blanton Duncan, Columbia, SC. Technically not fully framed but 95% framed. A storied type that is more of an error of the T-42 design rather than its own type. The date of September 2, 1861 was supposed to be the June 2, 1862 date but due to the large amount which circulated and are known today, having it a separate catalog number seems appropriate. They are typically marred with problems and locating problem free and evenly circulated mid-grade examples such as this is rare. With third party grading having been mainstream for well over a decade now, their population totals become very telling for rarity with condition. Both services have not seen anything better than Very Fine 30. In our March Baltimore sale, we sold an iffy looking PMG Fine 15 for $900.
