1861 Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-62 (PCGS). Satiny and brilliant with pronounced green-gold color on both sides. There are no heavy marks, just a few minor small abrasions on the obverse. This one is eagerly sought by type collectors who desire examples of the No Motto design issued between 1850 and 1866. Q. David Bowers, in his Guide Book of Double Eagle Gold Coins, estimates a surviving population of just a few hundred examples of this ever popular date that marks the beginning of the Civil War.
