1861-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. AU-58+ (PCGS). Overall khaki-gold with richer peach hues in the protected areas. The features are generally bold in detail, the strike well executed for the issue, and the light wear is largely confined to the design high points. Even close examination fails to reveal any notable marks or abrasions on either side. Similar in overall rarity to the 1859-S and 1860-S, the 1861-S is the most desirable of these three double eagle issues in AU and finer grades.
