1861 Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-62 (PCGS). From a substantial mintage of nearly 3 million pieces, struck on the brink of the Civil War, the 1861 Liberty double eagle is an available issue in lower grades, but examples in MS62 condition are quite scarce. This attractive specimen features well-detailed design elements and lustrous deep orange-gold surfaces with the expected number of minor contact marks for the grade. To further describe this coins originality, some minor incrustation is noted here and there, particularly on the reverse.
