Circa 1841 Washington Temperance Benevolent Society or Tyrant Alcohol medalet. Musante GW-163, Baker-332A. Copper. MS-64 BN (PCGS).21.5 mm. 48.2 grains. Generous mint red remains on the obverse and is particularly intense close to the rims. The motifs are light brown. The reverse is deeper chocolate brown throughout with nuances of pale blue-green iridescence. Very well struck, the nicest in this respect of the three Baker Collection pieces from these dies. Reeding is sharp to the touch. Like the two above, there is no suspension piercing and the reverse die state is late, with extensive spalling or rust through the fields. Very choice and very rare in this format; nearly unheard of in this quality.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
