PCGS Currency Superb Gem New 67 PPQ.Here is a superbly margined Series of 1914 $5 Red Seal Federal Reserve Note that is the finest example graded for its catalog number. This well preserved $5 is from the Chicago Federal Reserve district and displays the portrait of Abraham Lincoln at center. A black printed district seal is at left while a boldly printed red scalloped Treasury Seal is seen at right. Red printed serial numbers are at lower left and top right. This type has engraved signatures of Treasury officials Burke and McAdoo to the lower left and right respectively. The green printed back depicts the vignette emColumbus in Sight of Land /emat left and emLanding of the Pilgrims/em at right.pThe paper is wonderfully original with overprint embossing clearly evident from the verso. Broad margins provide a perfect frame for the sharply printed plate impression. These 1914 Red Seal FRNs come in two varieties. Plate Style a exhibits a large bank district numeral and letter at the bottom left and top right while at the upper left is a small plate letter but no bank district letter and number. Plate Style b examples display a large district numeral and letter at bottom left and top right, but also feature a small district numeral and letter at top left and bottom right. ppRed Seal Federal Reserve Notes were a short lived series.
