Edwards, New York. 1902 Date Back $10 Friedberg 623 (W-1415). The Edwards NB. Charter #10569. PCGS Currency Choice About New 58 PPQ.Here is a very pleasing $10 Date Back from this Saint Lawrence County bank which displays a boldly printed blue serial number 1 in the lower left below the portrait of William McKinley. The Edwards National Bank was organized in March of 1914 and issued notes through the end of the National Currency era in 1935. The bank issued both 1902 Date Backs and Plain Backs as well as Type 1 and Type 2 small size nationals for a total issuance of $242,360. By 1935 however just $250 in large size notes were outstanding. Luckily that sum included this lightly handled Serial Number 1 note. pBoldly penned signatures of bank officers Gregory and Miles (who signed as vice president) are found along the bottom border of the design. The overprints are deeply inked in blue with punch through embossing seen from the verso. The note clearly never circulated and was certainly saved as a souvenir.
