1795 Washington Grate Cent. Small Buttons. Copper. 28 mm. Musante GW-50, Baker-29D, Breen-1270. AU-55 (PCGS).,Glossy dark brown with subtle dark tan mottling on the reverse. A bit soft on the high points of the obverse, but the strike was fairly even as evidenced by the fully defined grate on the reverse. Rather nicely centered, with legends complete all around. A small planchet void at OND of LONDON left that area soft and slightly rough, but naturally so. A pair of what appear to be thin scratches passes above Washingtons eye, though these seem to have been in the planchet and are as made. Pleasing for the grade and from one of the great American cabinets. From our sale of the Norweb Collection, November 2006, lot 2033.
