1776 Washington Before Boston Medal. Bronze. 69 mm. Paris Mint Restrike. Musante GW-09-P3, Baker-48. Choice About Uncirculated.,The surfaces are attractive light mahogany brown, though a few small areas of porosity are noted right of Washingtons portrait and there remains a bit of light surface debris in the finer recesses of the design. The strike is quite sharp with just a trace of light friction on the high points of the relief. Struck on a somewhat thin planchet with evidence of fine and consistent filing around the entire circumference of the obverse rim. This feature seems old, softened by handing and potentially an as made condition applied at the Mint. However, it is likely impossible to tell for certain and specimens of this particular vintage are rare enough that there are few available for comparison. Struck at the Paris Mint, but without the privy mark usually seen on the edge, a variant that Musante dates to the early 1830s.
