T-19. Confederate Currency. 1861 $20. PMG Choice Very Fine 35.No. 5115, Plate A. One of the great notes produced for the Confederacy by the Southern Bank Note Company of New Orleans. Minerva is seated to the left. Navigation is seated at center by a globe and charts. A blacksmith with hammer and anvil stands at right. These 1861 $20s were fundable in 8% stock or bonds. While rare in any grade with just 14,860 issued, unimpaired Very Fine and better T-19s are truly hard to find and often very tightly held. Brilliant color is featured on this lightly circulated example which is among the finest T-19s we have handled. The all important protector retains all of its original brilliance. Bright, uncancelled paper is seen while the sharply printed design is fully framed. A wonderful option for any high end type set and likely an upgrade for many.
