T-27. Confederate Currency. 1861 $10. PMG Very Fine 30.No. 1777, Plate Ab. One of the best notes found in the Cleo Collection, this T-27 is tied for finest graded at PMG. The grading service has graded just one other example as a problem free Very Fine 30 with a third note in the population report being an impaired cut cancelled note. This example displays dark inks and evenly circulated paper that is free of cancellation. Just 8,576 of these Hoyer & Ludwig printed $10 notes were issued. Unlike Montgomery notes, T-27s and their T-35 counterparts were not held from circulation for interest redemption. Survival rates for these notes are less than 2%. Today fewer than 120 T-27s are known to survive. This is a type that is very rare in problem free grades above Fine. Certainly the present note is among the very best available to collectors.
