T-4. Confederate Currency. 1861 $50. PMG Extremely Fine 40.No. 1094, Plate A. The T-4 is the last of the four Confederate treasury notes to be issued while the Confederate capital was located in Montgomery. These were high quality notes produced by the National Bank Note Company and bore interest at a rate of one-half cent per day. 1,606 examples of this type were issued and today less than 200 are known to survive. This lightly circulated $50 comes on bright, clean paper and features vibrant green inks. The signatures of Clitherall and Elmore are neatly penned and clearly legible. This note was manuscript issued by a Captain Williams, Assistant Commissary of Subsistence on June 21, 1861. A small cluster of pinholes are seen near center as mentioned by the grading service. They affect very little though. This is one of the nicer T-4s we have seen in a while. From The Cleo Collection of Confederate Paper Money.
