1787 Vermont Copper. RR-13, Bressett 17-V, W-2255. Rarity-1. BRITANNIA--Double Struck--Very Fine, Damaged. 151.7 grains. The two strikes are closely overlapping and most visible in the obverse legends and as a second truncation at lower obverse. There is only one strike clearly visible on the reverse, but the deep flange at lower reverse leads us to believe that one of the strikes was a full indent strike through a planchet, which would have provided the extra force to create the deep flange. This coin is also among the heaviest RR-13s extant; Carlotto gives a range of 90 to 130 grains for this die marriage, and this example is nearly 22 grains heavier! Edge badly bruised, and some old scratches are noted at reverse center. Light brown and otherwise quite attractive for the challenging RR-13 dies.
