1787 Fugio Copper. Club Rays. Newman 4-E, W-6685. Rarity-3. Rounded Ends. EF-40 (PCGS). Boldly struck and well centered on a nice wide planchet, this is a highly desirable example of the eagerly sought Club Rays Fugio type. Warmly patinated in golden-brown, both sides also reveal glints of olive-gray as the coin dips into a light. There are no troublesome marks or other post-production blemishes, the obverse with only a few light, shallow flan flaws arcing from the upper right to the lower left; these as made features are easily overlooked in hand, and just as easily forgiven. The reverse is double struck, although this attribute is not noted on the PCGS insert. Early die state, Newman A/A, with the lower loop of the digit 8 in the date open.
