Opening of the West ABNC Vignette Booklet. This collection is made up of eleven separate booklets, each of which fit into an elaborate board and leather box with a rawhide tie. Each booklet contains engravings from the ABNCo files illustrating various aspects of frontier life. These are actual vignettes archivally tipped-in to the beautifully printed work, and are fully removable with no mounting traces should the new owner chose to do so. As an example, one book, entitled "The Indian Nation," has four vignettes of Native Americans, a full-size stock certificate of the Tombstone Mill Mining Company, a piece of Union Military Scrip, and a Leavenworth City Obsolete note, all mounted within the well-written and informative booklet. The initial book is a history of the ABNCo and its techniques. Among the other booklets are "Riverboat Clippers," The Indian Nation," Cowboys and Gentlemen," The Boomtowns," "Gold Rush Days," "The Iron Horse," "Buffalo Hunters," Sodbusters," "Lumberjacks," and "The Wilderness." Included in this lot are ABNCo promotional material and several shipping envelopes plus a Coin World article on the subject dated January 16, 1980. A few of the engravings over the years have become loose from their mountings and some of the materials exhibit foxing. Auction appearances are seldom at best.
