1878 Shield Nickel. Proof-66 (PCGS). A bright Gem example with hints of steel-blue and gold color on each side. An unbelievably lustrous piece whose sizzling cartwheels mimic a business strike with prooflike tendencies. The obverse and reverse centers play host to a razor-sharpness that is always expected on a Gem Proof, such as this coin. In short, a lovely piece, one that certainly meets the qualifications for the grade. A total of 2,350 proofs were struck in this proof-only year.
