1868 Shield Nickel. MS-66+ (PCGS). CAC. Extraordinary Gem surfaces are minimally toned in iridescent gold. Intensely lustrous with a silky smooth appearance, there is much to recommend this beauty to quality conscious type and date collectors. Although the 1868 nickel has a mintage of 28,817,000 circulation strikes, it is scarce to rare in the finest Mint State grades, as few were saved. Among those that were saved, not many received the care that was obviously lavished on this premium MS-66+.
