Undated (1881) Pynchon House medal by J.A. Bolen. Brass. Musante JAB-39. MS-64 (NGC). Mostly brilliant greenish gold brass with just soft traces of honey and pale blue toning. The surface seems just slightly subdued by handling oils, but pleasing prooflike reflectivity shines through nonetheless. A few tiny flecks are scattered about, and mostly visible under magnification, a common condition for pieces in this composition. One of 45 believed struck, though only two others in brass appear in our online archives covering more than a decade of auction appearances. From the Henry South Collection.
