1869 J.A. Bolen store card. Copper. Musante JAB-35. MS-65RB (NGC). Generous pale violet and rose toning over deep steel brown surfaces. Additional mottled tones are noted in the reflective fields. Sharply struck with a nice wire rim and excellent definition of all details. One of just 28 reported to have been struck by Bolen, and though we have handled a few of them over the years, there was none in the January 2011 sale of the Q. David Bowers Collection. These dies were never sold so no restrikes were made. The dies themselves were still in Bolens family, and donated by them to the ANS, in 1948. From the Tim Gabriele Collection; our sale of November 2017, lot 247.
