Circa 1859 Sansom medal. Presidency Relinquished. U.S. Mint restrike. Musante GW-59, Baker-72A, Julian PR-1. Bronze. SP-64 (PCGS).40.7 mm. 490.4 grains. Light olive brown patina is fairly consistent on both sides save for a small, glossy ruddy patch over the first E of PRESIDENCY on the reverse. A later die state from that seen on the medals above. Here, the roughness at the rim is a bit more aggressive, as is the spalling on the portrait. Further maintenance has been undertaken on the dies, but the obverse was sloppily finished as raised die lines are now prominently seen along the inside of the rim over the letters STA and beneath the truncation. Clearly struck a bit later than the circa 1859 vintage of the dies.
