Circa 1805 Sansom medal. Presidency Relinquished. Original dies. Early impression. Musante GW-58, Baker-71B, Julian PR-1. White Metal. SP-63 (PCGS).40.6 mm. 357.4 grains. A lovely specimen with bright, virtually “white” surfaces that are almost completely free of speckles and pesting that plague the typically seen examples. Just one tiny nodule is visible on Washington’s shoulder, and there are tiny patches on the reverse rim and on the very highest point of the reverse design. Otherwise, the devices are frosty with satin texture and the fields boldly reflective. A bit hairlined, but this is easily overlooked considering the otherwise superior quality. An early impression without die rustEx William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
