Circa 1795 North Wales Halfpenny. Musante GW-51, Baker-34. Copper. Two Star reverse. Plain edge. VF-30 (PCGS).27.0 mm. 91.4 grains. Smooth light brown with a tiny trace of verdigris at the rim beneath the truncation and a heavier spot at W of WALES. Glossy with the typical strike for the variety, with purposeful softness throughout intended to make the issue look old and circulated from the outset. This piece is sharp enough to show evidence of the file marks on the dies that were undoubtedly part of their artificial aging process. This is the usual variety seen with single stars at left and right, flanking the base of the harp.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
