Franklin is an important town in New Hampshires watershed as it is the confluence of the Winnipesaukee and Pemigewasset rivers, forming the Merrimack River.pAlthough the Franklin Savings Bank had been organized in 1869 and had achieved success, Franklin had no commercial bank to make business loans and participate in local manufacturing and commerce. That changed on November 22, 1879, when the Franklin National Bank was organized with a capital of $100,000. The full capital was paid up as of December 6. On December 20 it received charter number 2443. The location was Franklin, also called Franklin Post Office.
