Exeter, New Hampshire. $5 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 609. The Rockingham NB. Charter #12889. PMG Choice Very Fine 35.A very scarce large-size offering on this southern New Hampshire town; one of just eight large-size known per Track and Price. Of that total, three are in the Uncirculated grade range and this Extremely Fine piece is the next best. The detail is lovely overall, the centering is nice, and there is just a touch of foreign substance at the back (PMG comments "Minor Foreign Substance").pThe Rockingham National Bank, the first National Bank in the town since the collapse and scandal of the National Granite State Bank in August 1893, was organized on December 30, 1925, with a capital of $100,000. The Comptroller of the Currency at the Treasury Department issued a charter on February 24, 1926, and the new institution opened its doors on March 27. A similar name had been used earlier by the Rockingham National Bank of Portsmouth, but that institution had gone into voluntary liquidation on March 31, 1905, and by 1925 there was no possibility of confusion with it.
