Civil War Era Bond and Currency Political Flyers, Various Types. Lot of Three (3) Items. Average FineThere was controversy over the "greenbacks" or Legal Tender notes which traded at a discount compared to gold and the bonds being sold to fund the war. Often flyers were created that looked like currency or bonds with clever slogans and satirical references. Included are three types including the two sided quarto size flyer "Greenbacks for Bonds." Democrats and Republicans had their opinions as to how these obligations should be paid; also George Pendleton green "Bonds in Greenbacks" note, uniface with green tint; Rare Packard advertising small $1000 bond type, but much split and taped on back. Appears to have been cut from a larger sheet. All with old Smythe & Co, pedigrees. Interesting view of this phase of Civil War financing.
