1785 Vermont Copper. Landscape. RR-2, Bressett 1-A, W-2005. Rarity-3. VERMONTS. Fine-15 (PCGS).;171.3 grains. Highlights of steel gray are largely confined to the protected areas around the devices, the balance of the surfaces with warmer golden-brown patina. Struck from misaligned dies, the impression is nicely centered on both sides, yet with uneven definition that is sharpest in the centers and along the upper right obverse and upper left reverse borders. The lower and upper left obverse, lower and upper right reverse are ill defined with little detail. In hand appearance is pleasingly smooth for this challenging type, accuracy alone compelling us to mention a few trivial planchet pits that are easily overlooked.;From the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection. Purchased from Early American Numismatics, April 1983. Collector envelope with attribution and provenance notes included.
