1788 New Jersey Copper. Maris 75-bb, W-5520. Rarity-4. Horses Head Right, Running Fox Before Legend. VF Details--Environmental Damage (PCGS).;138.9 grains. Surfaces are a uniformly granular, dark gray-brown, and the remaining sharpness in the design motifs belies the fact that this coin must have been nearly Uncirculated when it was probably lost to the ground. Shield lines are essentially complete on the reverse, and the horses head is complete with vestiges of much hair detail. The running fox leading the reverse legend is complete and bold. Though the surfaces are less than perfect, the even texture and absence of any major flaws lends this Running Fox copper a positive visual appeal.;From the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection.
