1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Small Planchet. Noe-26, Salmon 9-E, W-900. Rarity-5. EF Details--Scratches (NGC).;Deep pewter gray patina with olive highlights that are more prevalent on the obverse. The impression on that side is drawn toward 5:30, the border flush with the tops of IN, but with all peripheral letters at least partially discernible. Centering is less perfect on the reverse, the strike off center at 7 oclock with the letters DO N largely absent. Late reverse die state with additional breaks at the digit 2 in the date and the letter D in ENGLAND. The letter G in the same word is extremely faint, and what appears to be a flan flaw has resulted in incomplete detail over and below the second digit in the denomination XII. The in hand appearance of this coin is relatively smooth, although closer inspection reveals numerous wispy pin scratches that explain the NGC qualifier. Even so, this generally bold EF has much to offer both the budget minded colonial type collector and the Massachusetts silver enthusiast.;
