1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Small Planchet. Noe-16, Salmon 2-B, W-835. Rarity-2. Fine Details--Scratch (PCGS).;56.9 grains. A mostly steel gray example with lighter pewter gray to the devices. Obverse impression off center to 5 oclock with the border through the word IN, following rosette obscured. The reverse is nicely centered with the peripheral legend fully legible, although the denomination XII in the center is a bit soft, as is the left half of the tree on the obverse. The only significant blemish is a light obverse scratch that bisects the tree trunk just above the roots, which feature explains the PCGS qualifier. Relatively pleasing, nonetheless, this piece would do nicely in a budget minded type set of early American coinage.;
