1723 Woods Hibernia Halfpenny. Martin 4.14-Fb.2, W-13120. Rarity-4. MS-62 BN (PCGS).;121.5 grains. A lovely example with glints of steely-copper color to otherwise dominant orange-brown patina. Surface texture is hard, satiny and overall smooth as far as a lack of post-production blemishes is concerned. The strike is well centered within fully denticulated borders and, while the detail is overall sharp, flan flaws in the centers have resulted in roughness to the texture and lack of detail in those areas. All in all, however, this is a premium quality Mint State example of both the type and variety that would do equally well in a high quality Colonial era type set or specialized collection of Woods Hibernia coinage.;From the Dr. Gordon Shaw Collection. Purchased from Early American Numismatics, November 1984. Collector tag with provenance notation included.
