1820 Capped Bust Dime. JR-12. Rarity-5+. Large 0. VF-35 (PCGS). Handsome mid grade quality for the type, this overall boldly defined Capped Bust dime also retains considerable sharpness in the recesses of the major design elements. Bathed in richly original deep steel-gray patina, blushes of olive and pale rose also engage pleasingly smooth surfaces. Our offerings for this variety over the years have been very few, and rightly so, for Winston Zack et. al. (2015) describe the JR-12 as "rare with no more than five known in EF or better condition and just a handful known in F and VF." In fact, we have handled just four pieces since 2012, and the present example is by far the finest. An exciting offering for the advanced collector specialist in early dime varieties.
