1797 Draped Bust Dime. JR-1. Rarity-4. 16 Stars. Fine-12 (PCGS). An attractive, problem-free example of this scarce early dime. Well balanced detail and the toning is a pleasing combination of light tan-gray devices and deeper slate-gray fields. There are no marks that stand out to the unaided eye and a glass reveals only faint, old scratches. This is a fairly early die state of the variety with minimal weakening of the date under the obverse die crack. In later states the date becomes almost totally obscured, an interesting feature for specialists, but the fully detailed version offered here is the more desirable for type and date collectors.
