1867 Liberty Seated Dime. Fortin-102. Rarity-5. Fine-12 (PCGS). Boldly toned steel-olive and pewter-gray surfaces with all major design elements well outlined and fully appreciable. An impressive rarity in all grades, both circulated and Mint State, the circulation strike 1867 was produced to the extent of just 6,000 pieces. Having disappeared from circulation early in the Civil War, silver coinage continued to be hoarded in the Eastern states for several years after Lees surrender at Appomattox Courthouse, thereby explaining the limited output from the Philadelphia Mint for issues such as the 1867 Liberty Seated dime. This date is actually easier to find as a Proof, and VF survivors, as here, have an impressive Rarity-6- ranking on Gerry Fortins seateddimevarieties.com website irrespective of die pairing.
