1797 Draped Bust Cent. S-140. Rarity-1. Reverse of 1797, Stems to Wreath--Double Struck, Second Strike 10% Off Center--VF-25 (PCGS). Warm medium brown with lighter golden high points. Surfaces slightly microporous under low magnification. Obverse off center to 8 oclock, boldly doubled at LIBERTY, two sets of denticles at 1 oclock to 4 oclock, softness at tip of bust, no marks readily seen by the unassisted eye. The reverse reveals bold doubling at the letters STATES and ERICA, and the fraction, no serious marks present. A neat 18th century coining error from the early days of the Philadelphia Mint.
