1803 Draped Bust Cent. S-251. Rarity-2. Small Date, Small Fraction. AU Details--Altered Surfaces (PCGS). With plenty of razor sharp striking detail remaining on the obverse, and the reverse suitably bold in most areas, this is a desirable, if more affordable AU example of the type, date and die pairing. The surfaces are a bit muted in appearance and curiously smooth to explain the PCGS qualifier, although blended olive and autumn-brown patina enhances the visual appeal. Repunching along the right side of the final letter S in STATES readily identifies this reverse die, which appears only in the Sheldon-251 pairing.
