1788 Vermont Copper. RR-21, Bressett 10-R, W-2155. Rarity-4+. Bust Right. VF-20 (PCGS). 139.9 grains. Significant Condition Census quality for this scarce Vermont variety. Glossy rich chocolate-brown surfaces with no serious marks and minimal planchet roughness. Most RR-21s suffer from weakness of strike at the centers which often leaves behind the rough natural planchet texture in that area. Thanks to this coins hefty planchet (this is, in fact, the heaviest RR-21 known), there was more than enough metal to fill out the dies and smooth out most of the planchet, leaving just a bit of rough texture near the left reverse border. The fullness of detail overall, and particularly on the reverse shield, is better than virtually all other examples seen. Late die state with heavy breaks on both sides. A fantastic representative of these dies worthy of a fine Vermont collection.
